when a book addict is unemployed...

Yesterday, The Hero of Ages (the final book in the Mistborn trilogy) was released. I finished it around 3 am.

Totally worth it.

I've only got a few friends who read the same stuff I do - which, when I think about it, is actually kind of strange. It's also frustrating at the moment, because I don't know even one other person who's read the previous two Mistborn books, let alone this very new one. That makes it very difficult to gloat about having correctly predicted some key plot points. I mean, I can't even explain to anybody what they were! Still, the triumph is extremely satisfying. Theorizing is a lot of fun when you read something of epic length, and it's even more enjoyable when you turn out to be right. And even better than that is realizing, as you approach the end of the story, that there's so much more that you never even considered might be possible. I mean, where would the fun be if the story couldn't still surprise you? Besides, it's in keeping with one of the major themes of the whole trilogy: there's always another secret. In fact, there are still more secrets, even now that it's over, which is one of the best things about it. One of them.

I wonder how late I'll be up the day the last Wheel of Time book is released.

this is the problem with loving to read so much. I've started trying to read the books that my students read, and as a result I was up past 2 three nights a few weeks ago reading vampire love stories. Oh dear. And I have to get up early for work.

I owe you a phone call...I haven't forgotten.
